What is the difference between SASE and SSE?

SASE delivers integrated  network capabilities and is primarily delivered as a service. It takes a much broader approach to help businesses secure and optimise their networks. SASE addresses user experience and cyber security and uses a range of different features.

Security Service Edge (SSE)  is a single-vendor solution that’s exclusively focused on security. It’s a subset of SASE and provides robust protection to users and enables access to web services, private applications and the web. SSE is an ideal solution for any company that prioritises security services whereas SASE provides comprehensive solutions on a larger scale, across various locations and devices.

Does SASE replace VPN?

SASE isn’t a direct replacement for Virtual Private Network (VPN)  but offers a dynamic solution that encompasses a range of different features. VPN protects users by encrypting their data to protect their online identity, whereas SASE provides a scalable, integrated service.

VPN uses perimeter-based security that establishes secure connections, concealing any information from third parties. It is standalone software and it’s made for users within the same environment. So, VPN differs from SASE because it connects a user with a single network whereas SASE connects users with multiple networks.
